How to Know When a Mole Needs Medical Attention

Introduction

Moles are spots on the body of two types. Some moles are harmless while others cause skin irritation and even cancer. Any mole that starts bleeding or damages your skin on the face, hands, legs or any delicate part of body needs immediate medical attention. You can find out if a mole needs medical attention through certain changes in your skin. Here is how to recognize them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Steps

1

Step One

Moles are of different sizes, shapes, and colors. They can appear on any part of the body, alone or in groups.
2

Step Two

Most moles appear in the first 20 years of a person's life, though they can occur later.
3

Step Three

Note the exact size, shape and color of the mole. Moles are both small and big. The color is mostly brown, black or pink.
4

Step Four

Check the size and color of the mole every day for any changes.
5

Step Five

Observe the mole when it becomes harder or the size increases. Note if the mole or the skin around is more itchy. This may be due to infection, which requires immediate medical attention.
6

Step Six

If blood oozes out of the mole, you need immediate medical treatment.
7

Step Seven

Watch for new moles developing on your body. Consult your dermatologist soon for any abnormal growth on your skin.
